Gillette, WY

This was our site in Buffalo, WY.  Indian Campground boasts 200 mature trees.  We had 8 at our site alone.

That's the view down the street from our rig.  We were in site #1.

Now here is the campground in Gillette.  We were here for the Monaco rally and got to stay put for the FMCA rally.

We had one show so far.  Here we all are waiting for the fun to begin.

Look at all the rigs parked out there.  I think there are 3000 on the property.

The Buckinghams put on a fun show.  They played  lots of oldies.

Remember I said it was nice and grassy?  Well, not when it rains.  We got mud.

The wheel ruts through the mud.

But wait, we had a hail storm this afternoon.  Luckily we were back from doing laundry and we had gone looking at coaches and venders.  We got a little damp from rain coming home.  No biggy   After we got in a message came over the loud speaker for us to seek shelter because a severe thunder storm with hail was on the way.  It came and was very NOISY.   

And the muddy road became a river.  Oh well we leave tomorrow.

 

We may opt to stay in tonight and not go to the Marty Stewart Show.  It's 48 outside and it is still raining. We go to Devil's Tower in the morning. Maybe the rain will go away by then.

Our first night in Cody we went to the Rodeo.  This is bronco riding.  They have to stay on for 8 seconds, and they get points for style.

It looks like it hurts to be whipped around like that.

They said that most horses with run to the left rounding the barrels.  He told us that horses are mostly left handed. 

This is in the Cody Museum.  The firearms hall. There are tons of guns.

Wild Bill Cody lived in this little house here in Wyoming.

The next day we took a scenic drive into the hills. 

 

The mountains here are very eroded.  The shapes or unique.

We saw a fast river.  I can't remember its name.

Part of the drive was called after Chief Joseph.

We ran into snow on our way up the road.  This road is in Montana.

There is a lot of snow up there. It was about 9000 feet.

The little lake up there was still frozen.

We started down the mountain.  No more snow.

We have to get down there to that road.  The road was full of hairpin turns.

 

We're in Gillette right now.  We'll be here until the 23.  We are meeting all sorts of people.  We even ran into a man and his wife that your dad use to work with at LCE.  We haven't seen them since the 90's.

The Grand Tetons

This is a great view of the mountains.  They say that because there are no foothills you can see them from far far away.

This is Lake Jackson. It is the northern most dam on the Snake River.  Idaho gets it irrigation water from up here.

They said that there are 200 moose in the park.  Yeah, right!  This is the only moose we saw in three days in the park.  Papa can touch this one.

Now we did see a huge herd of bison in the park two days in a row.  It was about five pm, so it was time for the herd to be bedding down.  We even saw several calves too far away to photograph. 

We took our own picture.  I was looking into the sun.  Can ya tell?

This is a view from atop Signal Mountain Summit.  You can see a lot of Jackson Hole ( the valley) from here.  That is a pothole made by the glacier.

The antler arch at the square in downtown Jackson.  They change it or mend it and three mates  every year.  We have a picture of Mark in the arch about forty years ago. I'll try to find it when we get home.

We left the Tetons Wednesday and drove through the park and then into Yellowstone Park.  We drove up and over Yellowstone Lake and on to Cody.  We saw Pronghorns, a couple of deer, and a bunch of bison in several places.  We saw a part of the park we had never seen before.  We have never been out or in for that matter the East gate of the park. 

 

We are going to a rodeo tonight after a cowboy dinner.  This is a busy little KOA.  We are also going to the Buffalo Bill Cody Center after lunch this afternoon. 

 

We leave here for Buffalo, WY Saturday morning.  We're not sure what's there, but we'll soon see.

Away we go

We leave in a few weeks for Wyoming.  We plan to stop at a couple dinosaur sites.  We also have a couple of rallies to attend.  It will be fun. 

Home Again

We got home today about 12:30.  We are almost done getting the stuff out of the motorhome and now I'll have to put it away.  I can't wait to see the grandkids.  But that will have to wait until tomorrow.  Erv has to get the battery charged up on the truck to get it out of the garage so he can get the washer plugged in for me.  I need to wash clothes again, and I don't want to go to a launromat again.
