Our last week in Michigan

No new photos, we have just been resting and getting things done that we haven't done in the last month.  We went to Marshall for three days to meet up with our Michigan friends.  Your dad and Darrell went to a antique car museum.  Linda and I just sat and caught up on happenings since our trip together last summer, while I did some laundry.  Then we went to a play at Turkeyville Dinner Theater with a turkey dinner.  It was cute.  that was Saturday. It was a fun visit.

Sunday at noon we left the Turkeyville Campground for a KOA in Allendale. We went grocery shopping today. We were going to have eat out. (Too bad.) We slept about 9 hours last night.  I think we were tired.

We were near Battle Creek while in Marshall and we are near Grand Rapids now.  Wednesday we head out to Elkhart, Ind. We want to go to the RV museum while there.  Then I'll probably take some pictures then. The museum is  suppose to have a bunch of some old RVs.

Talk soon

The tour is over

.
The day after we went through we had lunch in town and that is an observation platform over the American Lock.

We watched this freighter go through the lock from the observation deck.  It took about 20 minutes.

Then we watched a tour boat like we had been on go through the lock.

And this itty bitty boat
From Munising we took a tour of Pictured Rock on Lake Superior.

A light house that was built in the 1800's.

This is like the boat we were on.

They do weddings up there.

Rocks fall off the cliff like that.

Look how the trees and turf fall down the ledge.

We got our boat into this cove.

Looks like a prow of a ship huh?

It was all beautiful.
The Big Mac Bridge

Guess who?  This was our second trip across the bridge. We went both ways. It  is wonderful.

Back in Lower Michigan and the first night we went to a logging show. The next day your dad went to Mackinac Island ( no photos) I was sick and sat that one out.

Driving down to Frankenmuth we stopped to see the Cross in the Woods.

I went to a huge Christmas store Bonner's.  It's 5 football fields big.  It was overwhelming to me.

We took a paddle wheel boat on the Cass river yesterday.

We drove the car across that covered bridge to get to the parking lot for the boat.

The wild life we saw were turtles sunning themselves on logs.  The big one is a soft-shelled turtle.

we are going to stay in Michigan for about another week to rest a bit.  That's all for now we'll be better at blogging now that we won't be so busy.  Talk to you soon.

Michigan so far

Wow, have we been busy.  The days we've had free so far have been filled with laundry, grocery shopping, or just resting.  We have seen so much and the bus tours have been eight or ten hours long.  So now I'll send some pictures.

Before the tour started we drove up to Hell, MI for lunch.

This is the tavern we had lunch in. The town is tiny, but it has two bars.
The first day of the tour we went to Greenfield Village and The Ford Museum.

We took the train around the village first.

The next day we toured Jiffy Mix factory

To go in the factory we had to cover our hair.  Dad has more hair than most.

We toured a restored theater in Ann Arbor after driving through Michigan University.

This is the Motown Museum.  Our guide was really great.

Then we went up to Lansing and toured the capitol.

The is the governor when Bev and I were born. I can't remember his name, but I think it was Kelly.

We also drove through Michigan State.  This is the dairy part of MSU and we got some Ice Cream.  Yum

Here we are in Grand Rapids where the Oldsmobile was/is made.

This is the logo of Body by Fisher from back in the day.

We toured a OLD house that is a museum now.

This is a Frank Lloyd Wright House.

We went to the Fred Myjer Gardens.  It has a Chuly in the lobby.

The gardens are beautiful.

As well as the art

In Holland, MI we saw wooden shoes being made.

This lady is hand painting a Delft jar.

I told you your dad has big feet.

This is a sign at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashore.

You can walk out over the dunes and see Lake Michigan.

People really go down and then try hard to climb back up.  If you get into trouble the Coast Guard comes out to save you for $750.  Oops.

We had some Moomers ice cream and it is as good as Ben and Jerry's. It's local and you can only get it around here.

Now we are in Sault  Ste Marie.  We took a dinner trip on Ste. Mary's River last night.  We got to go through the locks to bypass the rapids.

Here we are in the lock going one way.  We went through two different ones.  Very interesting

This the campground we are staying in at the moment.

Today we got in the viewing ramp and watched the locks from the outside.

It took about 20 minutes to watch the ferry rise.  I was intrigued.

That's enough of the "book"  and we only have about 10 days left.  More later.
